The genetic analysis with the specific molecular markers identified for Calendula maritima allowed us to distinguish pure populations from populations affected by hybridization with the congeneric species Calendula fulgida. Based on genetic purity, degree of intra-population diversity, consistency of population and health status, we selected among the purest populations the most suitable to be propagated in vitro for re-enforcement and reintroduction activities within the historical distribution range.
