D3 Monitoring of the genetic stability of the propagated plant material

The C. maritima populations propagated in vitro (Action C.1) will be analyzed genetically to verify the genetic stability of the clones obtained, in order to propagate and re-establish in the new sites only pure lineages regenerated from populations of ascertained genetic identity. This verification is necessary to evaluate the possible onset of mutations induced by in vitro culture known as somaclonal variability. This element of diversity, usually pursued in programs of genetic improvement, for the reasons previously mentioned (see action A.1) is on the contrary to be avoided in conservation programs in order to prevent reintroductions of individuals genetically different from the mother plants. This activity will be carried out using the molecular markers specially designed within the action A.1.
