Monitoring survey of the new populations at Salina Calcara and Cala Pozzo

The monitoring survey of the two new populations at Salina Calcara and Cala Pozzo was carried out. Five months after plantation, the survival rate remains high, respectively 91% and 59%. Despite the extreme climatic condition in the last week of June and at the beginning of July, most plants are in good condition though showing evident signs of water stress, especially those that had a vigorous vegetative development, while most plants less vigorous seem to better respond to water stress.

Regarding the populations planted in February 2020 at Salina Calcara and Cala Pozzo, the situation since last monitoring is stable; survival rate is  about 65% and 61% respectively. An interesting discovery for the future survival of the species is that in the Cala Pozzo site, the first seedlings originating from seed outside the protection fence was found.
