Due to its ecological amplitude Calendula maritima plays a key role in the building and functioning of various coastal plant communities. The territory that hosts the populations, which largely falls within the Natural Reserves of Saline of Trapani and Paceco and Stagnone Islands of Marsala, has a huge scientific and conservation interest due to the high number of endemic, rare and threatened plant species at regional and national level. The same territory and in particular the project intervention sites also coincide with two of the IPAs (Important Plant Areas) recently identified at national level.
