First case of application of the protection decree of Calendula maritima

With Decree of the Regional Councilor of Territory and Environment n. 195 GAB of 19/06/2020 it was declared concluded with a negative result the Incidence Evaluation procedure (VIA) relating to the “Project for the implementation of an urban park at Punta Tipa”, a site that houses one of the largest populations of Calendula maritima. Among the rejection reasons, at article 2 it is reported that “the deficiencies found in the study of incidence and the non-congruity with the Decree of the President of the Sicilian Region 13/6/2019 – Provisions for the protection of the floristic species Calendula maritima Guss. – do not allow to evaluate and express an objective judgment on the possible effects and impacts that the project could produce on fauna and vegetation components of the Natura 2000 Site ZSC ITA010007 Trapani Salt Pans, and in particular on the population of Calendula maritima Guss.”.
